Writing a Statement of Faith

One of the most beautiful observatories built in the United States of America has to be the Chamberlin Observatory. This observatory was built in 1888 and supervised by Herbert Alonzo Howe, an astronomer known for his love of theology and astronomy.

Visual Awe hopes to be a place where one can find astronomy and good theology. Therefore, we (my wife and I) felt it was fit for us to perform an exercise and write a statement of faith as we explore good theology and astronomy.

Writing a statement of faith is a great exercise because it helps you know where you stand on theological issues, and whether what you believe is Biblical or false.

  • We believe in the holy Triune God of the Bible: God is one Being with three Co-equal and Co-Eternal Persons: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

  • We believe God created all of humanity, male and female, in His image. After the first humans sinned against God, we all now share a sinful nature which separates us from our holy God. Therefore, all of humanity is now in need of reconciliation with God.

  • We believe because of God’s great love for us, Jesus voluntarily chose to come in human flesh, live a perfect sinless life, die on the cross for all of humanity’s sin, rise from the dead on the third day, and ascend into heaven to sit on His throne. He did this so all could be saved from their sin if they repent and believe in Him.

  • We believe salvation is by faith alone, through grace alone, in Christ alone. Any person can be saved if they turn away from their sin and believe Jesus is Lord.

  • We believe in Scripture alone: we believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God, inerrant and unchanging; and is necessary for believers to read, listen and obey to bring glory to God and become more Christ-like.

  • We believe that everything God does is for His glory alone.
